Sunday Set List #36 12/20/2009

Medical Lake Community Church

We had an excellent service today.  Outstanding message by Pastor Mark, plenty of connections with the songs we sang, and a real sense of God’s Spirit orchestrating everything.

I have whittled down the traditional Christmas carols to the ones that communicate the message the clearest and are not just sentimental favorites. I balanced them between this service and Christmas Eve.

This is our second year with “What Kind of Throne”. I’m always on the lookout for a great contemporary Christmas songs and this one of them.  A new instrumental intro idea for it came to me this morning when I was running the songs at home and it worked fine at home and in practice with the team, but it got away from me in the service.  Fortunately, the rest of the song went well.  Brian was jamming with me on his mando on the song before the formal warm up, I liked it, so I decided to go with it instead of drums because it seemed like a better fit for the song.

I introduced my new read through your Bible plan today.  It has the New Testament in chronological order.  The two year plan has you reading through the New Testament 4 times, Psalms and Proverbs 2 times, and the rest of the Old Testament 1 time.  I have used word count in MS Word to balance the reading time for each day which makes the plan very doable for most people. I’ve included the one and two year versions of the plan in case you want to check it out: 2010-2011 Bible Plan, 2010 Bible Plan

Pine Lodge Corrections Center for Women

Tonight was the Christmas Celebration at Pine Lodge.  It will be the last one since the facility will be closing in May of 2010.  We had 107 ladies present for the service.  Chaplain Dave’s sermonette was timely.  My take away is Joseph reminds us that love is merciful and puts others needs before your needs. The trio Mercy Seat shared a variety of songs including some delightful acapella numbers.  As always it was a blessing to worship the Lord together with the ladies; especially with well known Christmas songs.

Here is the list for the songs tonight:

1 O Come, All Ye Faithful (1,3,4) Christmas/Advent

1 Angels We Have Heard On High Christmas/Advent

What Kind of Throne is a great song. We used it last year...couldn't fit it in this year though.

Merry Christmas!
