Sunday Set List #171 12/2/2012

When the congregation sings it touches my heart! That was really the case this morning. We layered the instrumentation on O Come, O Come Emmanuel beginning with my acoustic guitar on the first verse and adding as progressed through the song. We also changed keys after verses 2 and 4 to help build too. Brad and Brian did an excellent job of making that build happen instrumentally. The congregation took care of the vocal build instinctively. It set the tone for the singing.

I had some problems with the guitar intro on Rejoice the Lord Is King, but sorted it out before we started singing. I really like Tommy Walkers new arrangement; we did it in G, capo 3 and, after some input from Dawn and Rayann decided to have the men and women alternate between pairs of lines in the added lyrics. I thought it worked really well.

Thursday night, the team throttled me back on You Are My King, so I went home with a slower metronome setting to practice with. I have to admit the slower tempo worked much better this morning and the song was more reflective.

We also ended up bumping up the last two songs a half step from what we normally do them. It’s a blessing to be a part of a team that works well together and is willing to experiment!

Pastor Mark got us off to a good start in Advent by reminding us that Our hope is in Christ-the very essence and manifestation of God.
