Sunday Set List #10 6/07/09

Medical Lake Community Church

We had a full worship team this morning and everyone played and sang well together. The congregational response was excellent, but that is normal which is a good thing and one we are thankful for. After our opener "You Are Holy", the rest of the set was slower and more reflective. I altered our normal template to move the Response song "Word of God Speak" to before the sermon which made it a good lead in. We hadn't done the song in a long time, so it was good to bring it back. I enjoyed playing my cigarbox bouzouki for the first set; it sounds better with another guitar which we had this week.

"Behold the Lamb" was a new song for us. The pastor want to do it as a lead in to Communion and I had been listening to some worship seminars featuring of all people Keith Getty and Stuart Townend and they had been singing some of their songs as part of their seminars, so I was already familiar with the song. The lyrics are so rich and they really set the tone for Communion. The song does have a range that is broader than mine, so I adjusted the high spot on the third line down and it worked just fine. We will definitely be using this song again.

We tried a different style Communion this time. We had two tables set up front with the elements and people came up as family groupings and served themselves Communion while a multimedia presentation of Communion songs, pictures, and text played on the screen. We ended up spontaneously singing the last song in the multimedia presentation "In Christ Alone" and the paster closed the service in prayer. I think it was very meaningful for many.

Chaplain Dave was back from his Air National Guard duty, and the ladies were glad to have him back. His sermon was on Jonah and he focused on Jonah as a disobedient believer, one who was afraid, prejudiced, and legalistic. We have a tendency to do the same! Worship in song with the ladies is alway an inspiration because they worship passionately and tonight was no exception.
